Lydia Jones, Nathan Wood, Kyla Penn, Lily Schneider, Raeann Schagel, Madelyn Fannin and Macey Norris were named the 2024 recipients of the Ohio Valley Bank 4-H Scholarship. To date, the bank has helped 262 4-H members pay for college through the program.
Jones was named the Gallia County Scholar. She is the daughter of Vernon and Jodi Jones. She is a graduate of River Valley High School and plans to attend the University of Cincinnati to study occupational therapy. She is a member of the For His Glory 4-H Club.
Wood was named the Mason County Scholar. He is the son of Rodger and Heidi Wood. He is a graduate of Point Pleasant High School and plans to attend Ohio University to study mechanical engineering. He is a member of the Rainbow Warriors 4-H Club.
Penn was named the Pike County Scholar. She is the daughter of Kyle and Nikki Penn. She is a graduate of Piketon High School and plans to attend Shawnee State University to study nursing science. She is a member of the Animals ‘R’ Us 4-H Club.
Schneider was named the Lawrence County Scholar. She is the daughter of Tara and Erin Schneider. She is a graduate of Symmes Valley High School and plans to attend Eastern Kentucky University to study pre-communication disorders. She is a member of the Starlite 4-H Club.
Schagel was named the Meigs County Scholar. She is the daughter of Carrie and James Schagel. She completed her homeschool curriculum and graduated this spring. She plans to attend the University of Rio Grande to study mortuary science. She is a member of the Cowboy Boots and Country Roots 4-H Club.
Fannin was named the Jackson County Scholar. She is the daughter of Rae Ann and Aaron Fannin. She is a graduate of Jackson High School and plans to attend the Ohio State University to study agricultural communications. She is a member of the Four Mile Farmers 4-H.
Norris was named the Cabell County Scholar. She is the daughter of Mark and Rachel Norris. She is a graduate of Cabell Midland High School and plans to attend Marshall University to study business. She is a member of the Ridge Runners 4-H Club.
Created in 1986, for more than 35 years the Ohio Valley Bank 4-H Scholarship Program has recognized outstanding high school seniors for their accomplishments in 4-H. Recipients receive $3,000 over 4 years which is typically presented to them during the county fair.
Winners are determined by 4-H advisors and volunteers. 4-H involvement accounts for 50 percent of the decision. The other half considers the individual’s experiences in other groups and activities, academic accomplishments and potential for success.
