In 1896, Ohio Valley Bank built the building on the corner of Second Avenue and State Street in downtown Gallipolis. The architect for the project was the renowned Frank L. Packard, who also created the Ohio Governor's mansion and numerous other landmarks. Known then as OVB Corner, it became a central meeting spot for the entire town.
Soon after the Main Office was opened in 1961, OVB sold the corner building. Over the next decades, it passed hands many times and fell into disrepair. OVB bought the building back in 2015 with a mission to bring it back to its original beauty.
The groundbreaking was held in September 2018 and work began. Construction on the $7 million project was completed just before the pandemic lockdown in 2020. It is estimated that over 29 local businesses participated in some way.
How fitting that the address is 360 Second Avenue, bringing the story of OVB's history in Gallipolis full circle.
